Camino Cristales
There is an old mule track that runs north
from Albuñol up into the Alpujarras. This connects to the
Camino Real, the main throughfare between Almería and Granada
before there were any roads. Fish and other foods used to
be taken from the sea into the mountains this way, earning
Albuñol the title of "The Gateway to the Alpujarras". In the
12th/14th centuries, the flourishing silk production of the
Alpujarran terraces would have also used these routes.
